Wicker Ottoman
If you want an unusual look for your bedroom, why not invest in a wicker ottoman? When decorating, we often struggle for inspiration and ideas. One way of choosing the style you want to use is to base it on the period of your home. For example if you live in a genuine 18th century home or one built to look like this, you could choose neo-classical furniture and fabrics. If you live in a modern home, you might want to follow a decorating scheme based around contemporary products such as chrome and aluminum.
Some people say that basing your decorating choices on the style of your home is limiting and there is no problem having a wicker ottoman in the bedroom of a loft apartment. Sure it isn’t a problem but it is easier to follow the architecture of the house. If you put grand French decor furniture into a country cottage you are probably going to make it feel dark and overbearing. Instead add a wicker rocking chair and wicker coffee table and you will be bringing nature in thus making your home more authentic.
If you live in a home that isn’t blessed by naturally high ceilings and lacks a spacious feel, you can do a lot to help this by the way you decorate and accessorize your home. One of the best ways to create a feeling of light and space is by using an all white interior. Then you can add a wicker ottoman with colorful bedding to give the room some character and color. Some people believe that because your bedroom is your sanctuary i.e. your visitors don’t see as much of it as they do your living room or kitchen, you have more freedom to choose a more adventurous decorating style. Assuming you have the space, you could put a wicker rocker in one corner and decorate it with colorful wicker furniture cushions. Personally I think your bedroom should be a calm and restful place. I would keep the colors calm and tranquil i.e. off-white and cream which are perfect when using indoor wicker furniture.
If you have a large enough bedroom but limited storage space a wicker ottoman is a good choice of bed as it will help to maximize the storage opportunities. You can put things that you don’t use every day i.e. spare bedding, towels, guest bedding etc into the base of the bed ready for use whenever you need it. You should wait to fit sockets for your lighting until you have decided on the type and size of bed and where it should be positioned. Then you will know what level of lighting is required. You may want to put a small table lamp on your nightstand particularly if you like to read in bed. Of course you could choose to put up wall mounted lights but remember that does rather restrict you on how you position your bedroom furniture in the future i.e. moving the bed to another wall is difficult if you have already drilled in the lights!
One thing to bear in mind with all forms of furniture is the amount of cleaning required. A wicker ottoman or any other form of wicker furnishings needs to be vacuumed and dusted on a regular basis. While deep pile carpets are normally preferred in the bedroom, they can lead to a lot of dust so you may want to combine this style of bedroom furniture with wooden floors. You can add a couple of rugs if you find the flooring too cold or perhaps install under floor heating if you have the budget and it suits the style of home.
